Bike ride fail.

We went on a bike ride today...kind of. There are several beautiful parks near us, but the one we often seem to find ourselves exploring is Wright Park. It's a beautiful arboretum park, with many interesting varieties of trees and a beautiful conservatory to check out. We haven't made it to the conservatory yet, but soon. We attempted to ride the secondhand bikes we brought from Las Vegas (Fig has been working to fix them up), but I managed to run into a fence less than a minute after we got on them. Fail.

And then there was this strange car parked a few buildings down from us as we walked home. What could that possibly be strapped to the roof of the car? It has a saddle!

Buttons and magnets

A snapshot of my evening:
Working at my messy desk, testing out a few glass marble magnet ideas. Also, musing over the cute Halloween ribbon and buttons I picked up at Michaels Craft store.
Check these buttons out, aren't they the cutest?
Man, I love Halloween.

Gnome Homes!

Just added these to the shop! I made both of these 'Gnome Homes' a while ago, just finally getting around to putting them up for sale. It was really fun making them, I hope people enjoy them as much as I do. I think the jar home reminds me of Hagrid's hut, must be the pumpkin. The box makes me think of a secret tea party I might have stumbled on...I picture twinkle lights, whimsical music, and good company.

We made it!

We finally made it to Tacoma! The drive in went relatively well, we didn't stop over night, just drove straight from Las Vegas to Tacoma. We left in late in the morning on Saturday and arrived early Sunday morning. Here is a pic of the Snoqualmie Mts early in the morning.
The fog over the trees was pretty awesome.

We spent the next few days without internet, catching up on sleep, and exploring our new neighborhood. There are some pretty beautiful parks around us, lots of cool bars and shops, and tons of cute houses. Tuesday we browsed the Tacoma Farmers Market and picked up some fresh veggies and yummy treats.
What are these?!

These AMAZING little nugget donuts came from this vendor. Warm, fresh, melt-in-your-mouth delish donuts.

Ahhh, Sundays...

Nice relaxing Sunday, a good way to start what I assume will be a long week. Hopefully not, though! Slept in, browsed the interwebs, talked to mom, had an early dinner at Brio (yum!), and did a little shopping at Borders. Fig and I shared the Bruschetta Quattro, 8 delicious little bruschettas, 2 of each kind, perfect for sharing! For the entrees, I had the steak salad and he had the carbonara, both really good.

Please excuse the pictures, taken from my phone in very dim lighting.

We finished our evening by strolling over the the bookstore and picking up some new additions to our library. I picked up The Magicians, by Lev Grossman (I have just begun reading this one and LOVE it so far), The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, by Katherine Howe, Freakonomics, by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner, and The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan. Plus, we got this great magazine, Stuffed, which I have never seen before but am very excited about. Its full of these amazing stuffed nuggets and tons of info and how-tos as well.

And in other happy news, I made my first sale on Etsy to this lovely person, who also has a pretty amazing shop that I'm sure I will have to purchase from soon! It has been a crazy couple of weeks/days, in which I was very tempted to turn off my phone, get under the covers, and refuse human contact of any kind. In particular, in the very same minute that I was receiving an email message on my phone that I had made my first sale on Etsy I was also receiving a slew of text messages about some unfortunate and upsetting goings-on at work. So in the middle of a personal/professional crisis, I received a line of hope from this one sale. I wish I could tell this person, without sounding like a total creep/weirdo how happy that sale made me and how it turned my month around. So much gratitude.

Anyways, back to The Magicians!

Cards listed in the shop!

Just listed a few cards in the shop, here's a preview of one:

It's a good thing no one reads this...

Some things:

1. I'm glad I don't have any readers because if I did I am sure I would disappoint with my infrequent and probably boring posts.
2. I feel blue. With all the stress (good and bad) of moving I have been prone to many highs and lows lately. At times I am so excited about the prospect of starting a new life in a place I love and can't wait to explore with Fig. Other times, I am completely weighed down by the present and future. I am in the middle of my own small life crisis, moving to a new city/state, quitting our jobs with no secure income other than savings in a crazy job market, and dealing with the last days of my soon to be ex-employer which should be fun and carefree but has become a nightmare. Plus, everyone around me also seems to be in crisis all of the sudden. I can't spare the energy to worry and fret for them, but I am anyway and it is exhausting. I could go on, this is only the tip of what I am feeling right now! But I won't...not that it matters, you're not reading this anyway, are you?
3. Pictures from the Boston trip:
Little Italy in Boston
This kills me! I love that people actually do this!
More of Boston
Magic shop in Salem, MA
Cool twisty branches taking over this house.
Wonderful Salem bookstore, stuffed to the brim with books!

4. And finally, I have promised myself I will list some of my goods on Etsy TONIGHT! I am constantly creating things and then spending way too much time trying to tweak them. I think I just need to get stuff out there to get a feel for what works. So, I'm just going to do it.
